The invention relates to an image texture description method based on a multi-directional pattern connection rule. The method comprises the following steps: carrying scanning on an input image througha preset scanning line S in a preset direction alpha, and recording positions of pixels and corresponding gray values; carrying out texture pattern detection on the input image according to the scanning line S; establishing a multi-directional mean texture mapping image according to the texture pattern detection result; and carrying out weighted average on the multi-directional mean texture mapping map to obtain a weighted average texture mapping image, the weighted average texture mapping image being the final texture mapping image. The method searches potential texture features and summarizes local characteristics thereof based on a simple scanning line method instead of adopting a fixed 2-D window method, thereby preventing inherent shortcomings of a method based on a domain block.
