The invention discloses novel coated sand and a preparation method thereof. The novel coated sand comprises the following components in parts by weight: 50-80 parts of silicon sand, 10-20 parts of phenolic resin, 5-15 parts of hexamethylenetetramine, 5-25 parts of a silane coupling agent, 4-10 parts of rosin, 6-12 parts of zirconium quartz powder, 3-9 parts of nanoscale silicon micro powder, 10-20 parts of bentonite, 2-8 parts of microcrystalline wax and 10-20 parts of a lubricating agent. The preparation method is simple; the prepared novel coated sand has the properties of being high in strength, resistant to high temperature and low in expansion rate; the casting yield can be improved; and meanwhile, the sand adhesion to a casting is not easy.
