The invention provides a high voltage power transmission line fault position determination method based on waveform similarity, and belongs to the technical field of electric power automation. The method is characterized by comprising the following steps that step 1001, the fault initial waveform is obtained; step 1002, the waveforms of multiple times of reflection are obtained; step 1003, the opposite end transmission waveforms of fault points (2) are obtained; step 1004, the distance values between the multiple fault points (2) and a local end measurement point (1) are obtained; step 1005, the invalid values are eliminated; step 1006, the fault distance is obtained; and step 1007, the fault distance is verified. According to the high voltage power transmission line fault position determination method based on waveform similarity, the distance between the fault points and the local end measurement point is calculated and verified for multiple times by using the similarity of the fault initial waveform and the reflection waveforms and the opposite end transmission waveforms so that the reliability of the calculated fault distance can be greatly enhanced.
