Provided is a pneumatic tire which allows rolling resistance to be reduced while ensuring external-damage resistance at sidewall sections 3. The pneumatic tire is provided with a pair of right and left bead sections 2, sidewall sections 3 continuous from the respective bead sections 2, and a tread section 4 that couples the sidewall sections 3, and the pneumatic tire has a carcass layer 5 mounted between the right and left bead sections 2. The pneumatic tire is characterized in that: a foamed rubber layer 6 is disposed at each sidewall section 3 outside the carcass layer 5; a side rubber layer 7 is disposed outside the foamed rubber layer 6; the density of the foamed rubber layer 6 is 0.5-0.9 g/cm3, and tan [delta] of the foamed rubber layer 6 at 20 DEG C is less than or equal to 0.17; and the side-wall rubber composition that forms the side rubber layer 7 is obtained by blending 1-20 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin, and 10-65 parts by weight of carbon black with respect to 100 parts by weight of a diene rubber.
