The invention provides a polymer resin composite microsphere with controllable menthol coating amount and a preparation method thereof. During the process of synthesizing the polymer microsphere by a free radical polymerization method, menthol is added, and the menthol is dissolved in a monomer directly through dissolution of the monomer; and then through oil-water interfacial polymerization, controllable coating of menthol is realized, and the functional microsphere with an uniform size is obtained. The composite microsphere has advantages of uniform distribution of menthol, controllable coating amount and strong fragrance-depositing capability, and can be applied to menthol cigarette products. The purpose of slowly releasing menthol of menthol cigarettes and the like is realized, and the defect that fragrance is instable and easy to loss during the production, storage and transportation processes of cigarettes is greatly improved. The method is simple, and raw materials are easily available. The method is suitable for large-scale production.
