A sodium alginate colloidal particle with silver ions loaded on the surface serves as the absorbing medium for the trace arsenic hydride gas provided by the invention; the mole ratio of sodium alginate to silver ions is at (30:1)-(40:1); and the moisture content in the colloidal particle is 35%-40%. The absorbing medium for the trace arsenic hydride gas provided by the invention is used for detecting arsenic hydride, the method is simple, the sensitivity is high and the absorptivity of arsenic hydride is as high as 97.32%.
