The invention provides inorganic insulation mortar based on hydrophobic aerogel and a preparation method thereof; the inorganic insulation mortar based on hydrophobic aerogel is a mixture of, by weight, 110-170 parts of cement, 30-96 parts of light aggregate, 5-25 parts of hydrophobic aerogel, 0.2-2.0 parts of cellulose ether, 0.2-2.0 parts of an air entraining agent, 0.-0.3 part of starch ether, 0.3-0.6 part of wood fiber, 1-2 parts of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), and 300-580 parts of water. The preparation method comprises the steps of 1, weighing the raw materials according to the parts by weight; 2, mixing well light aggregate and hydrophobic aerogel in advance; 3, mixing well the raw materials except for the light aggregate, hydrophobic aerogel and water, and stirring well with weighed water to form slurry; 4, adding the mixture of the light aggregate and hydrophobic aerogel in step 2 into the slurry of step 3, stirring slowly, and allowing standing to obtain the inorganic insulation mortar based on hydrophobic aerogel.
