The invention discloses an operating method for treating residual sludge by adopting a horizontal anaerobic reactor and belongs to the technical field of organic solid waste treatment. The method adopts the horizontal anaerobic reactor to conduct anaerobic digestion on the residual sludge with the solid content of 20%, the biogas yield of the sludge is up to 294 mL/gVS, the degradation rates of protein and polysaccharide are 39.5% and 37.4%, and the maximum value of sludge dehydrogenase activity is 312 TFmicrograms/(mL.h). The highest daily sludge feeding load is up to 10 gTS/L.d through stable operation of the high-solid-state horizontal anaerobic digestion reactor and is 2-3 times more than the load of traditional wet-type anaerobic digestion.
