The inventio provides a system and method for performing surgical procedures with a reusable instrument module. A surgical instrument is also provided and comprises an outer housing shell defining a cavity and an instrument module which can selectively insert into the cavity of the outer housing shell, the outer housing shell comprises a first outer housing shell defining the longitudinal axis and a second outer housing shell extended from the first outer housing shell. The instrument module comprises at least one motor, the at least one motor comprises a drive shaft defining the rotation operative axis, wherein the instrument module is inserted into the cavity of the outer housing shell in such a manner that the operative axis of the at least one motor is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the first outer housing.
