The invention relates to a method and system for protecting user privacy. The method comprises the following steps: acquiring user registration information and corresponding online behavior information; converting the user registration information and the corresponding online behavior information into user evaluation information; dividing the user into n classes by using a clustering method according to the user evaluation information, wherein the n classes of users are corresponding to n virtual users; performing key management on position information of the user; and recommending application information to the user according to the position information of the user and the preference of the corresponding virtual user. The method and the system provided by the invention enable the personal privacy of the user to be controllable and open, and can not only make the power mobile application obtain the related requirements of recommendation, but also protect the personal information of the user.
