The invention discloses application of 4,6-dimethyl-2-thiopyrimidine cuprous complex in catalysis of transfer reaction of copper or aldehyde hydrogen for preparation of alcohol. The application comprises the following steps: under the protection of inert gas, adding reactants, namely aldehyde or ketone, alkali and a catalyst, into a reaction container with a stirring device according to mole ratios, and then adding isopropyl alcohol, carrying out stirring reaction at 80 to 120 DEG C for 20 to 30 hours, thus obtaining an alcohol compound. According to the application, a 4,6-dimethyl-2-thiopyrimidine cuprous complex is used as the catalyst, and the isopropyl alcohol is used as a solvent and a reducing agent, so that use of a toxic phosphine-containing ligand is avoided, and no noble metals are used; therefore, the cost is reduced to an extremely large extent. The whole process goes green and is efficient and easy to operate; the application is a good method for synthesizing the alcohol.
