The invention relates to an electric vehicle congestion following system. The electric vehicle congestion following system comprises a millimeter-wave radar, an electric vehicle battery, a motor, a motor controller and an electric vehicle control unit VCU, wherein the millimeter-wave radar is mounted at the front part of an electric vehicle body and used for obtaining vehicle speed information and vehicle distance information of a preceding vehicle; the electric vehicle battery is used for providing a power source and calculating a recovery torque according to an allowed discharge power; the motor is used for driving and braking an electric vehicle and judging recoverable torque; the motor controller is used for controlling the motor; and the electric vehicle control unit VCU is used as a congestion following controller of the electric vehicle and used for realizing a congestion following function. According to the electric vehicle congestion following system, through introducing the position and vehicle speed information of the preceding vehicle, the frequently operated driving mode is optimized, the recovered brake force is sufficiently utilized, vehicle braking can be realized without remodeling the original brake system, and the driving comfort and the economic efficiency of the whole vehicle are enhanced.
