The invention relates to a GPU acceleration-based method for locating ultrahigh-voltage substation equipment infrared images. The method comprises the steps of firstly performing grayscale processing on the substation equipment infrared monitoring images, and then performing corrosion and expansion on the infrared monitoring images and infrared template images by utilizing morphological open operation to finish denoising; and extracting SIFT features of the infrared images, performing feature matching after GPU acceleration processing, and then removing mismatching points, thereby realizing device locating. According to the method, substation equipment in the infrared monitoring images can be accurately located, necessary technical support is provided for fault diagnosis and repair of the substation equipment, the efficiency and accuracy are remarkably improved, and remarkable economic benefits and relatively high engineering application values are achieved.
