The invention discloses a preparation method of transformer oil base oil. The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) performing hydrorefining treatment on naphthenic base distillate oil under the action of a catalyst to obtain hydrofined oil; (2) hydroisomerizing the hydrofined oil to obtain hydroisomerized oil; (3) hydrofinishing the hydroisomerized oil to obtain three-stage hydrogenated oil and then performing atmospheric and vacuum fractionation, wherein a fraction higher than 280 DEG C is the transformer oil base oil. The process is a full-hydrogen process under medium pressure conditions; under the situation that the obtained transformer oil base oil is not added with a metal passivator, the oxidation stability of transformer oil is improved, and part of naphthenic base properties is retained; the IEC60296-2012 standard requirements for new transformer oil can be met. The yield of the transformer oil base oil produced by the process can be improved by 8 percent or above as compared with that of the transformer oil base oil produced by a traditional process.
