The invention discloses a method for removing the un-closed curve segments in an image. The method comprises the following steps: performing binary treatment to the image; through refinement, converting each curve line existing in the image into a single pixel curve; traveling the pixel points in the image; finding out the starting point of an un-closed curve segment and storing the point into the pointList; if the current point p is the terminal point of the un-closed curve segment, then, based on the points recorded in the pointList, conducting removal to the segment; if the current point p is not the terminal point, then, based on the gray values of its eight neighborhoods, enabling the point p to position the point neighboring the point p; then, updating the variable value of the eight-neighborhood value of the recorded point p; and then determining whether the current point p is located at the terminal point of the un-closed curve segment or not until the preset time is reached. According to the invention, through the use of the method to remove the un-closed curve segments in an image, it is possible to effectively remove all the un-closed curve lines in an image within a designated length scope and to well preserve all the closed curve segments and the un-closed curve segments in need of preservation out of the designated length scope.
