The invention provides a dynamic reliability probability index determining method for determining the reliability level of a power grid. The method comprises: achieving a power system analysis program PSD-BPA interface; storing the line parameters of a power system; layering the power system and ranking faults; calculating the power system transient stability; and calculating the reliability index for unstable events. The dynamic reliability probability index determining method realizes the PSD-BPA interface, solves a simple transient stability analysis model in the conventional dynamic reliability evaluation, achieves comprehensively considered fault modes including not only the single fault or double faults of line and the transformer, but also multiple chain faults caused by protection maloperation or refusal. A partition model and a fault sorting method solve the large calculated amount of an analytical method. The method is simple and intuitive, and provides a convenient reliability index calculating method for technicians when a planning and running scheme is repeatedly modified and calibrated, and has good practical guidance and application value.
