The invention relates to an insulator defect detecting system and method, in particular to a semi-fixed porcelain post insulator defect detecting system and method, and aims at solving the problems that due to the fact that defects cannot be detected in real time, the accuracy and timeliness of detection results cannot be guaranteed and the detection rate is low. The system specifically comprises a shock-excitation module, an acquisition module, a main-control module, a transmission module and a power supply module. The method comprises the specific steps of firstly, analyzing the performance state of the inherent frequency of a semi-fixed porcelain post insulator; secondly summarizing mechanical vibration equations of a post device; thirdly determining the frequency of a natural vibration mode of the post device and the corresponding amplitude; fourthly obtaining the whole complete information of the dynamic properties of the insulator. Accordingly, the vibration measurement is conducted on the insulator. The semi-fixed porcelain post insulator defect detecting system and method are applied to the field.
