The invention discloses a system for treating laterite nickel ore and application of the system to treating the laterite nickel ore. The system comprises a pelletizing molding system, a rotary hearth furnace direct reduction system and a dry magnetic separation system. A discharge port of the pelletizing molding system communicates with a feed port of the rotary hearth furnace direct reduction system, and a discharge port of the rotary hearth furnace direct reduction system communicates with a feed port of the dry magnetic separation system. By applying the system to treating the laterite nickel ore, water-containing laterite nickel ore green balls can directly enter a furnace, the drying procedure at the front end of the process is omitted, and investment is reduced; and meanwhile energy consumption is reduced, products with the higher nickel grade can be obtained, and the quality of the products is effectively improved.
