The invention discloses a method and apparatus for analyzing a thermal-stable section in a ring network system. The method comprises the steps of acquiring power flows of a first branch and a second branch and a pre-saved target breaking-off factor, wherein the target breaking-off factor means the proportion of the power flows transferred from the first branch to the second branch when the first branch is disconnected; calculating a power flow breaking-off margin factor of the second branch in the case of disconnection of the first branch circuit based on the present power flows of the first branch and the second branch, the heat stability capacity of the second branch and the target breaking-off factor, wherein the power flow breaking-off margin factor represents the changed margin of the power flows and thermal stability capacity of the second branch when the first branch is in disconnection; and if the power flow target breaking-ff margin factor is less than a margin threshold value, identifying the second branch as a target branch, wherein the target branch indicates the branch that will appear to be overloaded when an open circuit occurs in the ring network system. In addition, the invention also discloses an apparatus analyzing the thermal-stable section in the ring network system.
