This ozone generating system operates intermittently, switching between an ozone generating operation period during which ozone is generated by the electrostatic discharge of an oxygen-containing gas with a discharge electrode, and an ozone generating operation standby period during which electrostatic discharge is halted and ozone is not generated. An ozone generating device is connected to a gas circulation device which, while circulating gas inside of the ozone generating device during the ozone generating operation standby period, removes at least the nitric acid in the gas being circulated.
