The invention belongs to the technical field of cigarette additives, and particularly relates to a preparation method of a supported tobacco based functional material for selectively reducing CO release amount in cigarette smoke. The preparation method comprises the following steps: 1) adopting a non-polar organic solvent to soak cut tobaccos at a room temperature, carrying out suction filtration, washing through deionized water and drying; 2) putting the cut tobaccos into a tubular furnace to quickly heat the cut tobaccos to a certain temperature under protection of nitrogen gas, keeping for 0.5-2 hours, and cooling to the room temperature; 3) putting the obtained carbonized cut tobaccos into a tapered bottle, adding a nickel salt solution under magnetic stirring, and carrying out ultrasonic treatment; and 4) carrying out suction filtration, washing through deionized water, drying in a dryer being 110 DEG C, staying overnight, and roasting in a muffle furnace ranging from 450 DEG C to 600 DEG C under nitrogen atmosphere, thereby obtaining the corresponding supported tobacco based functional material. The supported tobacco based functional material is added into the cut tobaccos (1-5wt%), and can be used for selectively reducing CO content in the cigarette smoke on the premise of not affecting integral mouthfeel of a cigarette.
