The invention provides a method and system for controlling a television by a mobile phone locating coordinate. The method comprises the following steps: obtaining a current position coordinate of a mobile phone; calculating a distance between the current position coordinate and a smart television coordinate; and if the distance is lower than a set threshold, establishing a connection, and sending a channel to a smart television. The technical scheme provided by the invention has the advantages of high user experience degree.
