The invention discloses a method for selecting a relay station in a power line network and stations and can reduce a message maintenance scale and reduce bandwidth resource occupation. The method comprises steps that maintenance messages sent by each second station are respectively received by a first station, the maintenance messages are sent by each second station through employing preset emission power, and difference of the largest emission power supported by each second station and the preset emission power is smaller than power used for compensating non-symmetry between the first station and each second station; a success rate of the maintenance messages sent by each second station is determined by the first station; one station is selected by the first station from the second stations according to the success rate and is taken as the relay station.
