The invention provides a universal electronic nose system applicable to the fields of environmental monitoring, medical diagnosis, food detection, quality control and the like and a detection method of the universal electronic nose system. The universal electronic nose system comprises a sample feeding unit, a detection unit and an upper computer control unit, wherein the detection unit comprises a sensor array detection module and an ion mobility spectrum detection module. According to the universal electronic nose system, a sensor array technique and an ion mobility spectrum technique are combined, the sensor array detection module or the ion mobility spectrum detection module can be independently utilized for detecting, then a system detection result is independently given out by the corresponding detection module, furthermore, the sensor array detection module and the ion mobility spectrum detection module can be utilized for combined detection, and then the system detection result is integrally obtained from detection results of the sensor array detection module and the ion mobility spectrum detection module, so that the detection accuracy of a traditional universal electronic nose system can be greatly improved by virtue of the combined detection.
