The invention belongs to the technical field of solar batteries and particularly relates to a preparation method of a transition metal ion doped upconverter for solar batteries. The upconverter is made from a transition metal ion doped up-conversion luminescent material which is formed by a transition metal ion and rare earth ion doped up-conversion luminescent material. By transition metal ions, local symmetry of a crystalline field around rare earth luminescent center ions can be reduced, transition probability of outer electrons of a rare earth luminescent center is increased, luminous intensity of the up-conversion material is improved, and accordingly visible light absorption capacity of the batteries is increased, and photoelectric conversion efficiency of the batteries is improved.
