The invention relates to a water retention and viscosity enhancement additive used for wet shotcrete. The water retention and viscosity enhancement additive comprises, by weight, 35-45 parts of sodium polyacrylate, 45-55 parts of an organic polymer binder and 5-12 parts of polyvinyl alcohol. The water retention and viscosity enhancement additive has very good caking and water retention properties, so the recovery rate of the wet shotcrete is reduced in order to make the jet quality be stable, thereby material wastes are avoided; and the water retention and viscosity enhancement additive can improve the dispersibility and the fluidity of a concrete grout in order to improve the uniformity of the wet shotcrete and reduce the porosity, so the mechanical performances of the wet shotcrete are finally improved.
