本发明提供一种播放视频的方法及装置，其中的方法具体包括：在播放视频文件的过程中，检测屏幕的显示状态；在检测到所述屏幕的显示状态由开启变为关闭时，停止对所述视频文件中的视频数据进行解码和播放，继续对所述视频文件中的音频数据进行解码和播放。本发明实施例在关闭屏幕的情况下，仅播放视频文件中的音频部分，从而可以减少屏幕的耗电量，提高终端设备的续航能力。

The present invention provides a method and device for playing a video. The method concretely comprises: in the process of playing the video file, determining the display state of a screen; when it is detected that the display state of the screen is changed from opening to closure, stopping the decoding and the playing of the video data in the video file, and going on decoding and playing of the audio data in the video file. In the condition of the closed screen, the audio part in the video file is only played, so that the power consumption of the screen is reduced, and the cruising ability of the terminal device is improved.
