The invention relates to a self-propelled working machine, preferably in the form of a tracked vehicle such as a bulldozer, having a serial hybrid drive (internal combustion engine 6, generator 5, drive motors 4). The drive motors (4) are driven by the generator for braking said working machine, and the internal combustion engine (6) is lugged by the generator (5). The power of an auxiliary power unit (hydraulic pump 7) is changed as a function of the engine braking power that acts upon the internal combustion engine and/or the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine.
