The invention discloses an insulator special for an independent return current rail. The insulator is applied to an independent return current rail system in rail transit to serve as a support and insulation component of the return current rail and comprises an insulator body, an insulator upper hardware fitting and an insulator lower hardware fittings; in the horizontal direction, the insulator is mounted between two travelling rails of rail transit, and in the vertical direction, the insulator is mounted to be closely attached to a track bed. The upper portion of the insulator body is provided with an umbrella skirt so that the creepage distance can be increased, the lower portion of the body is of a conical-columnar structure with the upper portion thin and the lower portion thick, and the bottom face of the insulator body is closely attached to the upper surface of the track bed so that the height occupied by the insulator body can be decreased. The insulator upper hardware fitting is of a groove-shaped metal structure made of a metal material, and the groove-shaped metal structure bears the independent return current rail, allows the independent return current rail to move in the longitudinal direction and limits the independent return current rail to move in the transverse direction. The insulator lower hardware fitting is constituted by two identical semi-circular metal structures, the two semi-circular metal structures enclose the insulator body and attach to the insulator body to the track bed in a pressing mode, and the fixed end of the insulator lower hardware fitting is provided with bolt holes which are used for fixing the insulator lower hardware fitting to the track bed.
