The invention relates to the field of packaging, in particular to a packaging pad grass sphere and a making method thereof. The pad grass sphere is in granular shape with diameter of 0.5-1cm, and is made by processing smashed crop straw, a filling agent and a bonding agent. The making method comprises the following steps: (1) straw smashing; (2) straw pretreatment: inputting the smashed straw to a steam softening device for softening; (3) stirring; (4) pelletizing; and (5) drying. According to the invention, the crop straw is used as a main material to make the packaging pad grass sphere, and the packaging pad grass sphere can be filled according to requirement when being used for filling up a packaging material, is reliable in a protective effect for the packaging material, is wide in material source and low in making cost, can be recycled and used repeatedly, and cannot cause secondary environmental pollution.
