The invention provides a method for machining a super-modulus cylindrical gear with small tooth number. The method is characterized by comprising the following steps: I, carrying out modelling; II, generating a rough milling cutter path; III, generating an uprooting cutter path; IV, generating a semi-finish milling cutter path; V, generating a finish milling cutter path; VI, carrying out aftertreatment; and VII, carrying out machining. Compared with existing machining technology, the method for machining the super-modulus cylindrical gear with small tooth number has the beneficial effects that rough and finish machining of complex tooth surfaces can be completed through universal square shoulder disc milling cutters, ball cutters and bannister shafts, without specially designing gear cutters; generating and enveloping machining of the complex tooth surfaces is completed through a four-axis machining center, without a special gear cutting machine.
