The invention relates to a method for increasing a current converter protection region for an extra-high voltage converter station. The method is characterized by comprising the following steps: firstly, moving an optic current transformer on a direct current wall bushing valve hall side to the outer side of a direct current field PLC electric reactor so as to enable the wall bushing to be in the protection region of the current converter; when the double poles of the extra-high voltage converter station are both dual current converters in operating, the communication between the two ends of the converter stations is normal, and the active power control mode of the each pole of the two stations is under the dual-pole power control mode; after the direct current wall bushing of one current converter is in failure, the single pole of the fault current converter is locked firstly for realizing arc blowout of the fault point; after the fault current converter is isolated, the normal current converters are started for realizing balance operation of the dual-pole three-current-converters. The method can be applied to all extra-high voltage converter stations in operation; and after the direct current wall bushing of a single current converter is in failure in a dual-pole four-valve-group operation, new operation logic is implemented so as to ensure the stable operation of the direct current system.
