The invention provides an image display apparatus realizing image description based on multi-beam by means of a simple structure. The image display apparatus includes: a frame; a signal generation part generating signal light; a scanning light emitting part with a light scanning part (a light scanner) scanning the signal light; and a reflection part reflecting the signal light scanned by the light scanning part. The scanning light emitting part comprises modulators (30R, 30G, 30B) used for modulating intensity of the signal light. Each of the modulators (30R, 30G, 30B) comprises a distribution part used for distributing light incident to the modulator into a plurality of parts of light and a modulation part used for independently modulating the intensity of light distributed by the distribution part.
