The invention discloses a ship afloat in dock undocking method based on step-by-step ballasting. The method comprises the following steps that 1, the total weight w of ballast water enabling a ship to keep naturally even keel is determined, and according to the ship draft conditions during even keel, ballasting for the ship afloat undocking is divided into n steps; 2, ballast water with the weight being w/n is added; 3, water is poured into a dock until ship draft is equal to forward draft when the ship floats freely at the moment; 4, if the total amount of ballast water does not reach w, the steps 2 and 3 are repeated; if the total amount of ballast water has reached w already, the ballasting conditions for undocking are met; w accounts for 35-45% of the light weight of the ship, and n is 3-6. According to the method, safe undocking of the ship is guaranteed, a larger ship can be built in the same-sized dock, and the productivity of the dock is greatly increased.
