Provided is a twin screw extruder that is used to knead materials and that has excellent productivity. The twin screw extruder has screws in which: a first screw section is provided with two screw threads that are inter-meshed, and the ratio D1/C of the outer diameter D1 of the first screw section to a distance C between axes is a value from 1.25 to 1.40; a third screw section is provided with three screw threads that are inter-meshed, and the ratio D3/C of the outer diameter D3 of the third screw section to the distance C between axes is a value from 1.05 to 1.10; and the outer diameter D2 of a second screw section gradually decreases going from the first screw section toward the third screw section.
