The invention provides polystyrene dipropyl maleate, a preparation method and application thereof. The method comprises the step of performing a polymerization reaction on polystyrene and dipropyl maleate serving as reaction monomers in the presence of polyethylene glycol and azodiisobutyronitrile by using water as a dispersion medium to prepare the polystyrene dipropyl maleate. The invention further provides the polystyrene dipropyl maleate prepared by the preparation method, application of the polystyrene dipropyl maleate in preparation of a tracer for monitoring a horizontal well oil production section and the tracer containing the polystyrene dipropyl maleate for monitoring the horizontal well oil production section. The polystyrene dipropyl maleate can be completely dissolved in crude oil, and can be used for achieving the aim of analyzing the oil production situation of each section and drawing the oil production fluid section of each section when being used for detecting the oil production situation of each section after multi-stage fracturing of the horizontal well.
