The invention provides a support vector machine ship target detection method based on polarimetric target decomposition. According to the basic principle of the technical scheme, the feature vector of a target is extracted based on the polarimetric scattering behavior of a target, and ship target detection is performed in combination with an SVM. The technical scheme comprises the following steps: S1, selecting a feature vector; S2, training of an SVM classifier; and S3, performing classification. According to the support vector machine ship target detection method, the feature vector is extracted via the back scattering information of the target, so that the ship target detection can be well realized, and outstanding performance on the aspects of restraining of false alarm and increase of the detection rate is achieved.
