An inlet device 1 for a centrifugal separator is used for directing the liquid mixture to be separated from an inlet pipe. Inlet device 1 rotates around axis R and comprises conical receiving structure 2 arranged around axis R and central receiving zone 3 surrounding apex 4 of receiving structure 2 for receiving the liquid mixture from the inlet pipe. The inlet device comprises inlet channel 5 directing the liquid from receiving zone 3 to separation chamber 16. Inlet channel 5 exiends from the periphery of receiving zone 3, spirals down the outer surface of conical receiving structure 2 and extends in a direction forming angle [alpha] of less than 90 DEG with the tangent Ta of the periphery of receiving zone 3. Inlet channel 5 extends in a straight radial direction from axis R from the bottom of the central conical receiving structure to inlet channel outlet 6 leading to separation chamber 16.
