The invention relates to a strapping device for strapping packaged goods by means of a strap, which strapping device has a tensioning apparatus for applying a strap tension to a loop of a strap, wherein the tensioning apparatus has a tensioning wheel that can be rotationally driven about a tensioning axis in a motorized manner, the tensioning apparatus also has a tensioning plate that interacts with the tensioning wheel, and furthermore the tensioning wheel and/or the tensioning plate is arranged on a rocker that can be pivoted about a rocker axis in a motorized manner in order to either increase or decrease a distance between the tensioning wheel and the tensioning plate by means of a pivoting motion of the rocker. The intended strap tensions shall be applicable to the strap in a secure manner and with as little slip as possible. This is achieved in that, during the transmission of the motorized driving motion to the tensioning wheel by means of at least one transmitting means of the strapping device, a driving motion is transmitted to the rocker, which can be pivoted at least at times during the duration of the tensioning process, wherein the driving motion is intended to apply a torque to the rocker.
