(2-Ethylhexyl)-{3-[(2-ethyl-hexylamino)-methyl]-benzyl}-amine (I) is claimed. (2-Ethylhexyl)-{3-[(2-ethyl-hexylamino)-methyl]-benzyl}-amine of formula (I) is claimed. Independent claims are also included for: (1) preparing (I), comprising carrying out reductive alkylation of 1,3-bis(aminomethyl)benzene with 2-ethylhexanal and hydrogen; (2) a harder for curing epoxy resins, comprising (I) and at least one polyamine having at least three amine hydrogens reactive towards epoxide groups; (3) an epoxy resin composition comprising at least one epoxy resin, and the above hardener; (4) a hardened composition obtained by hardening the above epoxy resin composition; and (5) an article comprising the above hardened composition.
