The invention concerns a method for accessing an item of multimedia content (y) containing at least one data segment (0.mp4v, 180180.mp4v). This data segment can be accessed via a document describing the content (y.mpd). The method comprises a first step (E1, E11) of obtaining the document describing the content (y.mpd) from which at least a first universal address (HTTP://x.com/video/0.mp4v) of a segment is generated; a second step of obtaining at least one parameter (s=abd) associated with the universal address (HTTP://x.com/y.mpd s=abd) of the document describing the content (y.mpd); a step of reading at least one address generation rule (URLParameter Template) in the document describing the content (y.mpd); and, on the basis of the address generation rule (URLParameter Template), the first universal address of the segment (HTTP://x.com/video/0.mp4v) and the parameter that is obtained (s=abd), a final step (E3) of generating the second universal address of the segment (HTTP://x.com/video/y1.mp4v s=abd). The invention also concerns a method for generating a document (y.mpd) that can be used in the context of the access method.
