The invention relates to a tank ventilating filter (10) which has a waterproof constriction portion (30) in the area of an air inlet (12). The tank ventilating filter (10) is vertically arranged with the air inlet (12) on the lower end and an air outlet (14) on the upper end to deposit water through gravity. A sedimentation chamber (32) is arranged above the constriction portion (30) to vertically separate the constriction portion (30) and a filter element (18). A labyrinthine air guide (34) is arranged in the sedimentation chamber (32) to prolong the path of air to the filter element (18). The filter element (18) prevents fuel back flow from a tank connected with the air outlet (14) of the tank ventilating filter (10) through a downpipe.
