The invention relates to a method and a control unit for transmitting data between nodes of a motor vehicle by using an Ethernet-AVB transport protocol. According to said method, data is sent at cyclic intervals via an Ethernet-based network, whereby the data is entered in a transmission frame (MAC frame) and forwarded to local transmitters (PHY), and before the data is sent the resources required to transmit the data are reserved by means of reservation messages of an intrinsic protocol. The data stream from a node is set to a specific transmission rate and/or data rate and the local transmitters and receivers (PHY) of a node are de-activated in non-usage periods in which no data is to be transmitted and re-activated if data for transmission is waiting in a transmission frame (MAC frame), the local transmitters and receivers (PHY) being available for the transmission after an activation period (Tw). In addition, according to the invention the local transmitters and/or receivers of the nodes are activated on the basis of a reservation message and the setting of the transmission rate and/or data rate.
