The invention discloses a method and a device for monitoring water levels in cable wells. Site monitoring points are arranged in the cable wells. The method comprises the following steps: acquiring water level data monitored by the site monitoring points in the cable wells; sending the water level data to a monitoring center, and carrying out data transmission between the monitoring center and the site monitoring points in a mode of a virtual special network. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) radio data transmission modules are arranged on the monitoring center and the site monitoring points, and the GPRS radio data transmission modules have independent card numbers and corresponding IP addresses. The method and the device for monitoring the water levels in the cable wells, provided by the invention, can realize the remote monitoring of the water level in the cable well at each monitoring point.
