The invention discloses a current regulation based area differential protection method. According to the current regulation based area differential protection method, currents on high-pressure side are calculated due to adjustment of current angle and transformation ratio through currents of a low-pressure side current transformer to solve the problem that area protection cannot be accessed due to the fact that the high-pressure side is not provided with current transformer interval. The current regulation based area differential protection method comprises steps of (1) adopting an area relay protection device which is formed by an area protection sampling module, an area protection current adjusting module and an area protection current calculating module; (2) enabling the area protection sampling module to receive merging unit collected current sampling value information of a current transformer on the low-pressure side of a transformer; (3) enabling the area protection current adjusting module to calculate a balance coefficient and a turn angle formula according to a transformer coefficient; (4) enabling the area protection current calculation module to calculate currents of the low-pressure side after being converted to the high-pressure side according to the balance coefficient and the turn angle formula of the transformer and enabling the currents to be used for area protection differential calculation.
