The invention aims to provide an image forming apparatus solving problems that the state of a nozzle surface of a recording head is difficult to observe and the nozzle surface of the recording head is difficult to clean. The image forming apparatus includes a recording head 24, a maintenance unit 9, a cover 101 and a controller. The recording head has a nozzle face and nozzles in the nozzle face to eject droplets of liquid. The maintenance unit has a cap 91 to protect the nozzle face of the recording head 24. The cover 101 opens an interior of the apparatus body to an outside of the apparatus body. An operating portion 514 is characterized in that after a key button is operated, an indication is given to the operating portion to control the nozzle face of the recording head 24 to be exposed out of one opening side of the cover 101.
