The invention provides a system for preparing 3-methylpyridine. The system for preparing 3-methylpyridine provided by the embodiment of the invention comprises a reaction device, a first condensate separation device and a 3-methylpyridine separation device, wherein the reaction device is provided with a catalyst, and the catalyst internally contains gamma-Al2O3, so that 2-methyl-1,5-pentamethylene diamine reacts in the reaction device to obtain a 3-methylpyridine contained reaction product; the first condensate separation device is connected with the reaction device so as to carry out condensate separation on the reaction product to obtain a gaseous H2 and NH3 mixture and a liquid 3-methylpyridine and byproduct mixture, wherein the byproduct comprises pyridine, 3-methylpyridine, 3,5-dimehtyl pyridine and 3-methyl-5-ethylpyridine; the 3-methylpyridine separation device is used for separating 3-methylpyridine from the liquid 3-methylpyridine and byproduct mixture.
