A multi-angle colorimeter (100) uses a multi-angle method and a symmetrical arrangement method in the optical configuration thereof. Photodetection on each side of a symmetrical arrangement is performed using one photodetector unit (41). The photodetector unit (41) being a multi-use unit allows the device to be simpler and eliminates any impact caused by individual differences unique to each of a plurality of photodetector units. Meanwhile, it is also possible to use elements in a multi-use manner for illumination. It is possible to reduce size and cost of the device by using a photodetector unit having a comparatively low wavelength resolution as a photodetector unit used on one side when using multiple photodetector units. As a result, it is possible to reduce the orientation error caused by a relative slant of the measurement surface, while achieving a reduction in size and cost of the device.
