This porous metal foil comprises a two-dimensional mesh structure composed of metal fibers. The porous metal foil has a first surface with a high degree of glossiness, and a second surface, positioned on the opposite side of the first surface, with a low degree of glossiness. The ratio of glossiness of the first surface (GS) to the glossiness of the second surface (GM), GS/GM, as measured under JIS Z 8741 (1997) at an angle of incidence and angle of reflection of 60 degrees, is 1 to 15. In addition to the excellent characteristics stemming from porous metal foils, the present invention enables a highly-useful composite metal foil, in which differences in characteristics between both sides is reduced, to be inexpensively obtained at a high level of productivity that is suited to continuous production.
