The present invention is directed towards a cam lock assembly. The assembly comprises a lock unit, a locking mechanism and a cam, the locking mechanism operating for rotating the cam between open and closed positions thereof; and a separate electrically-driven lock control module connectable to the lock unit and cooperating therewith for selectively switching the lock unit between a locked state in which the cam is in the closed position and an unlocked state in which the cam can be rotated to the open position.
